KatyQuilting

Welcome to KatyQuilting

Thank you for visiting!!!

Tim and Kim Nash own and operate KatyQuilting. We provide a full range of longarm quilting services in Katy and West Houston, Texas. Tim is the one who does the quilting, and Kim is the one who chases down fabric and supplies, traveling to quilt shops and fabric stores all over Texas..."promoting our business", of course!

It started on the final day of the 2011 International Quilt Festival. Kim dragged Tim to the show...she wanted to get a few last-day deals. Tim camped out near the quilt machine booths while Kim shopped. When Kim returned and was ready to leave, she found Tim burning through the thread on one of the many demonstrator longarm quilt machines. "Quilting is something I think I could do as a second career," he told Kim. "You don't know anything about quilting!" she said in reply. Three months and four quilts later, Tim ordered his first longarm machine. Six months after that he was quilting for customers. Kim now had a new mission in life...buying more fabric than her available space would allow.

About Us - What We Do

KatyQuilting provides a full line of quilting services--from little baby quilts to comfy throws for watching television; from table runners and wall hangings to queen and king size bed spreads. We have rolls of Quilters Dream cotton, cotton/polyester blend, and wool batting. If you prefer, you can supply batting of your choosing. We have a wide assortment of Superior Thread colors (if we don't have it, we can get it) and quilting patterns to choose from to finish your quilt top to your liking. We can make the binding for your quilt from excess backing fabric or any fabric you like. If you have already made your binding, we can machine attach it to the quilt front so you can hand finish it on the back. Alternatively, we can machine finish your binding so there is nothing left for you to do but enjoy your quilt.

Although quilting and finishing your quilt tops is our primary service, if you don't sew but still want a quilt, we can discuss your ideas and come up with a design and create that special quilt from start to finish for you.

Services

Tim currently has two quilt machines--a HandiQuilter Fusion with attached computer and quilt pattern digitizing software, and an APQS Millennium. We can use nearly any quilting design you might find or we can create it if necessary to make your quilt just right for you.

Preparing your quilt for quilting

Once you have finished piecing your quilt top, there are a few steps you need to take before sending it to be quilted. All thread tails should be clipped and any stray or loose threads should be removed. If you don't remove them, they are likely to be permanently sewn into your quilt. Darker threads may be visible through any light colored fabrics in your quilt. You should iron your quilt top, and neatly fold it before packing for delivery. Unless we are piecing your backing, you should also iron and neatly fold your backing fabric before sending.

Your backing fabric must be at least eight inches longer and eight inches wider (four inches extra on all four edges) than your quilt top for proper mounting on the quilt machine. If your backing is not wide enough or long enough, we will have to attach strips of muslin to properly load your backing material...this will be an additional cost to you.
